Chicago's Most Dangerous Intersections for Pedestrians

Posted By Power Rogers & Smith, P.C. || Feb 24, 2016

Pedestrian AccidentIn a densely populated city like Chicago, pedestrian-vehicle collisions occur, even when pedestrians are crossing with the light in a marked crosswalk. In 2014, a study was conducted to determine which intersections in Chicago were the most dangerous. The list included the six-way intersection of North, Damen, and Milwaukee avenues to be the most dangerous for pedestrians, showing 43 accidents involving pedestrians or bicycles from 2006 to 2012.

The remainder of the top three most dangerous intersections included the intersections of Cicero and Chicago avenues, and Halsted Street, Lincoln Avenue, and Fullerton Parkway. The study also showed the most dangerous intersections in the suburbs, including Touhy Avenue and McCormick Boulevard, Cermak Road and Cicero Avenue, and Cermak Road and U.S. Route 12.

According to the Active Transportation Alliance, pedestrian fatalities reached 29 individuals in 2013 and 2014 saw another 20+.

If you or someone you love was injured in a pedestrian collision, it is important to take the proper steps toward retaining legal counsel. The negligent driver may be held responsible for his or her actions if he caused the collision. Because pedestrians don’t have the same protections as vehicles, injuries resulting from a collision can be very serious and even life-threatening.
